Dominique SPRUMONT, Dr. iur, Chairman

Professor of Health Law at the Law Faculty of the University of Neuchâtel (Switzerland). Founder and Deputy Director of the Institute of Health Law of the University of Neuchâtel (www.unine.ch/ids), one of the 5 academic centers of the World Medical Association (www.wma.net) since 2013. He was invited professor at the University of Montreal (Canada) in 2002 and at the National Tsing Hua University (Taiwan) in 2014. He is vice-director of the Swiss School of Public Health (SSPH+) and of the Ecole Romande de santé publique(ERSP) and also vice-president of the Board of the Réseau Fribourgeois de Santé Mentale, (RFSM) Expert in legisprudence, he collaborated in the drafting of several legislations in the field of health and healthcare at the Swiss and European level. He is also regularly invited by scientific and professional association in developing their guidelines in those fields. For instance, he coordinated the drafting of the Olympic Movement Medical Code for the IOC in 2006 and contributed to the 2008 and 2013 revision of the Declaration of Helsinki of the World Medical Association.
Expert in the field of patient's rights and public health law with special interest in the regulation of research with human subjects, patient’s rights, the regulation of healthcare professionals, pharmaceutical and food stuff regulation, he has written more than 100 scientific publications, articles and book chapters on those issues. He is invited as expert by several organizations working in the field of health law and ethics at the national and international level (e.g. Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences, Council of Europe, European Union, World Medical Association, World Health Organization). He is one of the founder of the European Network of Research Ethics Committees supported by the European Commission (www.eurecnet.org). Since 2006, he is also the coordinator of the initiative Training and Resources in Research Ethics Evaluation (TRREE) which aims at providing a free, open access and multilingual online training program in research ethics and regulation (http://elearning.trree.org).

Jean-Pierre KRAEHENBUHL, MD PhD

Jean-Pierre Kraehenbuhl is the CEO of the Foundation. He is emeritus Professor at the University of Lausanne, and was affiliated member of the Swiss Institute of Cancer Research (ISREC), He is Consultant at the Division of Immunology & Allergy of the University Hospital (CHUV), Lausanne, Switzerland. His field of expertise is mucosal immunology and vaccinology. He is a member of EMBO and the scientific co-founder of Oravax, now Acambis Ltd.
Jean-Pierre Kraehenbuhl

Nicolas FASEL, PhD

Nicolas Fasel is full professor at the Faculty of Biology and Medicine of the University of Lausanne and director of the Department of Biochemistry. After a doctoral degree at the Swiss Institute for Experimental Cancer Research, he took up a post-doctoral position at UCLA. On his return to Switzerland, he studied post-translational modifications of cell surface antigens before investigating the molecular and cellular biology of protozoan parasites including virulence factors, cell death and host response. His work led to pioneer contributions of the role of Leishmania RNA virus (LRV) in the innate immune response in Leishmania infection and in exacerbating lesion development. He further reported techniques to identify LRV in Leishmania species and the presence of LRV in L. aethiopica. He is one of the world leaders in his field and has extensive expertise in Leishmania biology, in infection models and in the innate immune response of the host.

Jean-Louis CARPENTIER, MD

Emeritus professor in the Department of Cell Physiology and Metabolism of the University of Geneva, Professor, Jean-Louis Carpentier is a former Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Geneva and member of the rectorate of the University of Geneva. He is currently President of the Jeantet Foundation in Geneva.

Jonathan FUCHS, MD, MPH

Jonathan Fuchs received an M.D. from the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School at the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey (New Brunswick, New Jersey, USA) and an M.P.H. from Columbia University (New York). He completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of California (San Francisco, California, USA) in 2000, and he is now Director of Vaccine Studies at the San Francisco Department of Public Health. He is an assistant clinical professor at the University of California (San Francisco) and co-chair of the Training Executive Committee for the HIV Vaccine Trials Network (Seattle, Washington, USA).

Antoine Geissbuhler, MD

Antoine Geissbuhler is a Professor of Medicine, Chairman of the Department of Radiology and Medical Informatics at Geneva University, Director of the Division of eHealth and Telemedicine at Geneva University Hospitals. He is also President of the Health-On-the-Net Foundation, Past-President of the International Medical Informatics Association, and Fellow of the American College of Medical Informaticians.

His research focuses on the development of innovative, knowledge-enabled information systems and computer-based tools for improving the quality, safety and efficiency of care processes, and on the evaluation of their impact on health outcomes, at the local level of the largest hospital in Switzerland, in the regional patient-centered health information system, in the implementation of the national eHealth strategy in Switzerland, at the global level with the Health-On-the-Net Foundation (http://www.hon.ch), and in the RAFT network, an extensive South-South telemedicine network linking hundreds of hospitals in 20+ developing countries (http://raft.g2hp.net).

Uyen HUYNH-DO, MD, MME

Uyen Huynh-Do is Associate Professor of Internal Medicine and Nephrology at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Bern. She was trained as an MD at the University of Zurich, then specialized in renal physiology and hypertension. From 1996 to 1999 Uyen Huynh-Do joined the Division of Nephrology and the Vanderbilt Center for Vascular Biology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (Nashville, TN) as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow. In 2004 she was appointed Assistant Professor, and in 2008 Associate Professor at the University Hospital of Bern. In 2009 she received a Master of Medical Education (MME) from the University of Bern and the Department of Medical Education, University of Illinois at Chicago. She is the director of the interuniversitary PhD and Postdoctoral programme IKPP (Integrative Kidney Physiology and Pathophysiology) supported by both the Swiss National Science Foundation and the European Union (Marie Curie FP7 Co-Fund).

William PRALONG, MD, PhD

Trained as an MD, William F. Pralong did his Thesis in Transport Phenomena at the Dpt of Pharmacology, School of Medicine in Geneva. He specialized then in Diabetes and Pancreas Physiology. He moved to industry to work on artificial pancreas and then conducted clinical trials in genetherapy for EPO delivery at the Dept of Experimental Surgery with Patrick Aebischer at the CHUV, Lausanne. He joined EPFL in 2000 with EPFL’s President, Patrick Aebischer to set up the curriculum in Life Sciences and Technology and in Bioengineering at the School of Life Sciences. Presently William Pralong is Deputy to the Provost for MQS at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology.

Frédéric ROCHAT,

Dr Frédéric Rochat was admitted as an attorney-at-law to the bars of the Canton of Vaud (2002) and New York (2005). He is a partner at the law firm of Carrard & Associés in Lausanne, Switzerland, specializing in corporate and contract law. In parallel he teaches law at various institutions.

Prior to joining Carrard & Associés in 2007, Frédéric earned his law degree in 1996 from the universities of Lausanne and Berne. While working as a teaching and research assistant in the fields of contract and securities law he obtained his doctorate from the University of Lausanne in 2002. He completed his two-year attorney traineeship and worked as an associate for one additional year in a business law firm in Lausanne, before leaving for the U.S. to obtain an LL.M. degree from Columbia University. From 2004 to 2007 he worked in the M& A and securities departments of the law firm of Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP in New York (2004-2005) and London (2006-2007).

Michelle ROSSIER, MD

Michelle Rossier MD was the director of the clinical laboratories of Hematology,Clinical Chemistry and Microbiology at the Hospital of Morges, Switzerland. In 2001she held the same position with Viollier Inc., one of the largest private clinical laboratories in Switzerland.
She is a former President of the Swiss Society of Clinical Chemistry (SSCC) and former President of the Education Committee of SSCC. She was a member of the Swiss Expert Committee of the FAMH (Foederatio Analyticorum Medicinalium Helveticorum) and a member of the Swiss Federal Committee on Accreditation.
She is based in Lausanne, Switzerland, where she founded the Health Science e-Training Foundation (HseT) and joined its core team in February 2006 to become a project coordinator for several national and international HSeT projects.

Bernard ROSSIER, MD

Bernard Rossier is MD, emeritus Professor and former Director of the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology and former Dean of the Faculty of Biology and Medicine of the University of Lausanne. As experimental nephrologist, his main focus has been the mechanism of action of aldosterone and its main effector in the kidney, the epithelial sodium channel (ENaC), unraveling critical aspects of the patho-physiology of salt-sensitive hypertension. More recently his interest has focused on the evolution of osmoregulation across the tree of life. His teaching interests are focused on the development of e-learning and e-training in developed and developing countries. He is a founder of the Foundation Health Science e Training (HSeT) in 2006 and presently a board member and project cordinator.
He is the recipient of many international prizes in the field of nephrology and hypertension. He is a member of EMBO, the Academia Europaea, the Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences, the Deutsche Akademie der Naturforscher Leopoldina; he is a Foreign Honorary member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He is Dr. honoris causa of the University Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris.

Amadou Alpha Sall, PhD

Amadou A Sall is a virologist and has a PhD in Public health. He received his scientific education at Universities Paul Sabatier at Toulouse, Paris Orsay and Pierre et Marie Curie in France. He has also visited several laboratories for his training including Institut Pasteur in Paris (France), Institute of Virology and environmental medicine in Oxford (United Kingdom), Center for tropical disease at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston (USA) or Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University at New York. He is currently the head of the Arboviruses and viral hemorrhagic fever unit, director of the WHO collaborating center and scientific Director of Institut Pasteur de Dakar which belongs to the Institut Pasteur International Network. His research focused primarily on ecology and evolution of arboviruses and viral hemorrhagic fever and diagnostics of the latter viruses is a priority in his laboratory. Dr Sall has worked for 2 years in Cambodia on hepatitis B and C viruses. He was a Visiting Research Scientist at the Center for Infection and immunity at the Mailman School of Public health of Columbia University and worked for a year on pathogen discovery. He has published more than 90 papers and book chapters and give more than 150 scientific communications in international meetings.
